Dear Mr.Marzalik, I am writing in hopes that the Shrine of Christ the King will be saved from demolition. It is an architectural gem, and its place in a depressed neighborhood makes it even more important to save. Black Neighborhoods Matter. It is a lovely Renaissance Revival church, admired by such distinguished architects as Thomas Stroka and Duncan Stroik. It is Chicago Historic Landmark, and I find it hard to believe that the Archbishop would want its loss to a struggling community to be part of his legacy.
I have heard that there are developers eager to buy it. So I hope the Archdiocese will pause before unleashing the wrecking ball. Yours sincerely, Laurie Cherbonnier 847-915-9548 Sent: 01/15/2016 Lay Faithful, Archdiocese of Chicago Leave a Reply
